Hot shooting Aggies fall just short to Eastern

The Murray State men sizzled the nets for 13 three-pointers but couldn't get one to fall with three chances to tie in the closing 90 seconds, dropping a 76-73 verdict to visiting Eastern Junior College on Monday night at Beames Fieldhouse.

Eastern built an 11-point lead twice in the opening half but K.J. Boone found a perimeter touch unseen up to this point as the 6-foot-7 sophomore canned a season-best five treys before intermission, including one with 36 seconds left that narrowed the gap to 42-38 at halftime.

After watching Boone light things up in the first 20 minutes, it was freshman Stanley Harley at the forefront in the second half with pivotal bucket after pivotal bucket to keep the Aggies within striking distance. Murray State eventually snagged just its second lead of the night on a Harley three-pointer with 4:20 left but Eastern had an immediate answer with five straight points to go in front for good.

Harley poured in a season-high 21 points to fuel the Murray State charge. Boone finished with 16 while Freddie Cooper also reached double digits with 10. Kameron Johnson pitched in six points, A.J. Richard scored five, Tarrance Austin and Jackson Lawley each had three while T.J. Gardner, Cordrayius Graham and Jaelen Tucker added two apiece.
