Box Score ARDMORE, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team opened the NJCAA Region 2 Softball Tournament in dominant fashion, shutting out Southeast Arkansas College, 8-0, on Wednesday.
Before the game, the NJCAA Region 2 awards were released as nine Murray State College softball players were recognized for their efforts on the field this season.
Lilly Wyche headlined the bunch as she was named Player of the Year, while
Cady Ammons,
Jaliyah Simmons,
Kaylee Carter,
Brylee Fanning,
Avery Beauchamp,
Isabella Hardeman, and
Carolyn Overton were also named to the First Team.
Bubba Lee was named to the All-Region Second Team.
The Lady Aggies broke through in the bottom of the second inning when
Bubba Lee delivered a bunt single that brought home
Avery Beauchamp for the game's first run.
Murray State added to its lead in the fourth inning with aggressive baserunning and timely hitting.
Mercades Lopez scored on a passed ball before
Bubba Lee drew a walk later in the inning. A couple passed balls allowed Lee and
Jaliyah Simmons to cross the plate.
Lilly Wyche capped the frame with an RBI single to score
Cady Ammons and extend the Lady Aggies' lead to 5-0.
The Lady Aggies continued to pour it on in the fifth inning. Lopez singled to center field to score Beauchamp, while
Ryann Phillips followed with an RBI single that plated Lopez.
Brylee Fanning added the final run of the game with an RBI single to left field, scoring Lee and giving Murray State an 8-0 victory.
Isabella Hardeman got the ball for the Lady Aggies. Hardeman threw four shutout innings, while striking out five and only allowing one baserunner to reach base.
Rylan Peevyhouse fired a scoreless inning in relief, while striking out one.
The Lady Aggies now take on No. 4 Seed Western Oklahoma State College on Thursday. First pitch is scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Regional Park in Ardmore, Oklahoma.
