ARDMORE, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team continued their winning ways in the quarterfinals of the NJCAA Region 2 Softball Tournament. The Lady Aggies defeated Western Oklahoma State by a score of 4-1 on Thursday.
The Lady Aggies struck early in the bottom of the second inning, manufacturing the game's first run. With one out,
Ryann Phillips delivered an RBI sac fly to score
Bubba Lee, giving Murray State a 1-0 lead.
Later in the inning, the momentum swung firmly in favor of the Lady Aggies thanks to a big swing from
Jaliyah Simmons. Simmons delivered a two-run home run over center field, plating
Brylee Fanning and extending the lead to 3-0.
Western Oklahoma State answered in the top of the third inning on an RBI double, cutting the deficit to 3-1.
Murray State quickly responded in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Cady Ammons came through with a clutch two-out RBI single to left field, scoring
Brylee Fanning and pushing the lead to 4-1.
Isabella Hardeman picked up the win for the Lady Aggies as she went 4 ⅓ innings, striking out nine and giving up one run.
Rylan Peevyhouse fired ⅔ of an inning in relief, and
Carolyn Overton threw two scoreless innings, while striking out three.
The Lady Aggies now take on the winner of No. 2 Seed UA Rich Mountain and No. 3 Seed National Park College. Murray State will play on Friday with first pitch scheduled for 4:00 p.m. at Regional Park.
