TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team completed the four-game sweep of North Arkansas College on Friday. The Lady Aggies scored 39 runs over two days, while shutting out North Arkansas College in 22 innings of action.
With the victories this afternoon, Murray State clinched the Region 2 regular season title with four games still to play.
Game 1: Murray State 8, North Ark 0 (5 Innings)
Murray State wasted no time setting the tone in the opener, plating a run in the first inning when
Lilly Wyche delivered a line-drive single to right field to score
Jaliyah Simmons.
The Lady Aggies opened up their lead in the second inning.
Brylee Fanning provided the big blow with a two-run home run to left, extending the lead to 3-0. Later in the inning,
Cady Ammons ripped an RBI double to center, and Wyche struck again with another RBI single, pushing the advantage to 5-0.
The Lady Aggies continued to pile on in the third as Fanning added an RBI single, followed by another run in the fourth on
Kaylee Carter's line-drive base hit to left. By the fifth inning, Murray State had complete control, and Fanning capped the scoring with a sacrifice that brought home
Bubba Lee to give Murray State an 8-0 victory.
Alanna Routt picked up the win for the Aggies in the circle. Routt threw two scoreless innings, while striking out five.
Addisyn Wright,
Hailey Prince, and
Isabella Hardeman each fired a scoreless inning in relief.
Game 2: Murray State 9, North Ark 0 (5 Innings)
The Lady Aggies carried their momentum into Game 2, using the long ball to take control early and secure the sweep.
Kaylee Carter set the tone in the first inning, blasting a two-run home run to center field to give Murray State a quick 2-0 advantage.
In the second inning,
Ryann Phillips added to the lead with an RBI single that scored
Mercades Lopez.
Murray State kept the pressure on in the third inning as Carter struck again with an RBI double to center, followed by an RBI single from Lopez to push the lead to 5-0.
The fourth inning put the game out of reach in emphatic fashion.
Lilly Wyche launched a three-run home run to left field, scoring
Brylee Fanning and
Jaliyah Simmons, and Carter capped her standout performance with her second home run of the game—this time a solo shot to center to give the Lady Aggies a 9-0 victory.
Keelie Treat got the ball for the Lady Aggies. Treat earned the win as she fired three scoreless innings, while striking out three.
Rylan Peevyhouse threw two perfect innings in relief, while striking out two.
The Lady Aggies travel to Carl Albert State College on Thursday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m.
