TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team swept North Arkansas College on Thursday. The Lady Aggies scored 22 runs, while only allowing one Lady Pioneer hit across twelve innings of action.
Game 1: Murray State 7, North Ark 0
Murray State wasted no time setting the tone in the opener. In the bottom of the first,
Jaliyah Simmons sparked the offense with a solo home run, sending a line drive over the left field fence to give the Lady Aggies an early 1-0 lead.
The offense continued to apply pressure in the second inning. A passed ball allowed
Kaylee Carter to cross the plate, and later in the inning,
Bubba Lee executed a sac bunt that brought home another run.
Brylee Fanning capped the inning with an RBI single, stretching the lead to 4-0.
Murray State kept the momentum rolling in the fifth when
Cady Ammons delivered an RBI double to score Simmons.
In the sixth,
Jordi Oakley put the finishing touches on the game with a two-run double, driving in
Lyndee Harless and
Mercades Lopez to extend the lead to 7-0.
While the offense was firing on all cylinders, the story of the game was in the circle.
Isabella Hardeman was untouchable as she threw a no-hitter, while striking out 14.
Game 2: Murray State 15, North Ark 0 (5 Innings)
Murray State wasted no time picking up where they left off, erupting for a massive first inning that put the game out of reach early.
The scoring began with
Cady Ammons, who drove in
Lyndee Harless with a single to center. Moments later,
Lilly Wyche delivered the big blow of the inning—a three-run home run to right field that plated
Jaliyah Simmons and Ammons, pushing the lead to 4-0.
The inning only snowballed from there.
Bubba Lee cleared the bases with a three-run double, followed by an RBI double from
Ryann Phillips. Murray State continued to capitalize on every opportunity, adding another run on a double play and then getting an RBI triple from Wyche.
Jordi Oakley capped the inning with a two-run home run to center, and
Mercades Lopez added an RBI single to make it 13-0 by the end of the first.
The Lady Aggies stayed aggressive in the second inning, adding another run on a groundout by Harless that scored
Jordyn Nichols.
In the third, Lopez picked up another RBI with a sacrifice fly, bringing home Wyche to extend the lead to 15-0.
The pitching staff was tremendous again, en route to a one-hitter.
Carolyn Overton fired two scoreless innings, striking out three.
Rylan Peevyhouse came on in relief to throw two scoreless innings, striking out four.
Keelie Treat threw the final inning for the Lady Aggies, en route to a 15-0 victory.
The Lady Aggies host North Arkansas College to conclude the series tomorrow. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 10:00 a.m.
