Box Score 2 BRANSON, Mo. – The Murray State College softball team defeated No. 18 North Iowa Area Community College, 9-0, and lost to No. 7 Kirkwood, 4-0, on Friday.
Game 1: Murray State 9, Iowa Area 0
The game remained scoreless until the fifth inning.
Lilly Wyche started the surge with a solo home run to left field to give the Lady Aggies a 1-0 lead. Moments later,
Avery Beauchamp followed with another solo blast to left, doubling the advantage.
The rally continued when
Mercades Lopez drove in a run with a hard ground ball single that scored
Bubba Lee, extending the lead to 3-0.
Jaliyah Simmons then delivered the biggest swing of the inning, launching a two-run home run to center field that plated Lopez and pushed Murray State ahead 5-0.
The Lady Aggies added to the lead in the sixth inning with more power. After
Lyndee Harless entered as a pinch runner for
Cady Ammons, Wyche struck again, sending a two-run home run to right field to make it 7-0.
Lee followed with a home run to right field to extend the advantage to 8-0. Murray State capped the scoring when
Brylee Fanning lined a single to center field that brought home Lopez and moved
Ryann Phillips into scoring position, giving Murray State a 9-0 victory.
Carolyn Overton was outstanding in the circle as she picked up the complete game shutout, while striking out 12 over six innings of work.
Game 2: Kirkwood 4, Murray State 0
Kirkwood opened the scoring in the second inning on a double to left field to drive in the game's first run. Later in the inning, Kirkwood scored on a Murray State error, giving the Eagles a 2-0 lead.
The Lady Aggies kept the deficit manageable for most of the game, but Kirkwood added insurance in the seventh inning on a 2-RBI single to right field, extending the lead to 4-0.
Murray State was unable to mount a comeback offensively in the seventh and fell to Kirkwood, 4-0.
Isabella Hardeman made the start in the circle for the Lady Aggies. Hardeman fired 6 ⅔ innings, while striking out seven and giving up three earned runs.
Addisyn Wright got the final out in the top half of the seventh via strikeout.
The Lady Aggies move to 31-1 on the season.
The Murray State College softball team begins Region 2 play as they travel to Arkansas to take on National Park College in a doubleheader on Mar. 13. First pitch is scheduled for noon.
