No. 2 Lady Aggies Open Region 2 Play with Pair of Victories

No. 2 Murray State Swept National Park College on Friday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 HOT SPRINGS, Ark. – The Murray State College softball team opened Region 2 play in dominant fashion, sweeping National Park College in a doubleheader. The Lady Aggies took Game 1 by a score of 9–1, before completing the sweep with a 7–1 victory in Game 2.
 
Game 1: Murray State 9, National Park 1 (6 Innings)
Murray State wasted no time setting the tone offensively in the opener. The Lady Aggies struck first in the top of the first inning when a ball in play from Lilly Wyche resulted in a double play that allowed Brylee Fanning to score the game's first run.
 
Murray State extended its lead in the second inning. Bubba Lee delivered an RBI double to left field that brought home Avery Beauchamp. Lee later scored on an RBI by Ryann Phillips, and Fanning followed with a sacrifice fly that scored Mercades Lopez to give the Lady Aggies a 4–0 advantage.
 
The offense continued rolling in the third inning. Lopez drove in Wyche with an RBI single, Phillips drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Beauchamp, and another sacrifice fly from Fanning brought home Lee. Lopez later scored on an RBI by Jaliyah Simmons to push the lead to 8–0.
 
National Park managed its lone run in the bottom of the fifth on an RBI double, but Murray State answered in the sixth when Lopez reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Kennedy Wardlaw to score, sealing the 9–1 victory.
 
Isabella Hardeman earned the victory in the circle as she threw 5 innings, striking out 10 and giving up one run. Addisyn Wright threw a scoreless inning in relief.

Game 2: Murray State 7, National Park 1
Murray State broke the scoreless tie in the third inning when Wyche lined a single to center field that scored Simmons.
 
The Lady Aggies added another run in the fifth inning as Beauchamp delivered an RBI single to left field, once again bringing Simmons home to extend the lead to 2–0.
 
In the sixth inning, Fanning provided insurance with a solo home run to center field, pushing the Murray State advantage to three runs.
 
Wyche added another RBI single in the seventh inning, plating Cady Ammons. Wyche came around to score before Lopez delivered an RBI single, scoring Beauchamp. Fanning hit an RBI single to cap the scoring and give the Lady Aggies a 7-0 lead.
 
National Park would score a run in the bottom of the seventh, but Murray State would go on to win 7-1.
 
Carolyn Overton was outstanding in the circle this afternoon as she fired 6 ⅓ innings, while striking out 13 Lady Nighthawks. 
 
The Lady Aggies continue the road trip tomorrow as they take on ASU-Three Rivers for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon.
