No. 1 Lady Aggies Beat Two Top-25 Teams

MSC Softball recorded a pair of victories in Branson today

BRANSON, Mo. – The Murray State College softball team picked up a pair of impressive victories against ranked opponents, defeating No. 21 Parkland College and No. 6 Des Moines Area Community College this afternoon in Branson, Missouri.
 
Game 1: Murray State 10, Parkland 7
Trailing 1-0 in the second inning, Lilly Wyche launched a two-run home run to center field, scoring Kaylee Carter and giving the Lady Aggies a 2-1 advantage.
 
Murray State added to its lead in the third. Cady Ammons delivered an RBI single that scored Jaliyah Simmons, and Wyche followed with another clutch hit. This time it was a two-run single that pushed the Lady Aggies ahead 5-1.
 
Parkland trimmed the lead to 5-3 in the bottom of the third, but Murray State answered again in the fourth. Simmons drove in Mercades Lopez with an RBI single, and Bubba Lee later brought home Ryann Phillips with a groundout to extend the lead to 7-3.
 
The Lady Aggies broke the game open in the fifth inning. Avery Beauchamp drove in Wyche with an RBI single, Phillips later scored on an error, and Brylee Fanning capped the inning with an RBI triple to make it 10-3.
 
Carolyn Overton threw a strong six innings to earn the win, striking out seven and only giving up three earned runs. Parkland mounted a late push, but Addisyn Wright came on in relief to secure the victory, 10-7. 

Game 2: Murray State 3, Des Moines Area 2
Wyche continued her big day at the plate in the second inning, blasting a solo home run to center field to give Murray State an early 1-0 lead.
 
Des Moines Area answered in the third inning with a two-run double to take a 2–1 advantage.
 
Murray State responded in the fourth. Simmons reached and later scored when Beauchamp ripped a double to left field to tie the game at 2–2. Later in the inning, Carter delivered a sacrifice fly that allowed Beauchamp to score the go-ahead run.
 
Isabella Hardeman made the lead stand, shutting down the Bears the rest of the way to secure the 3-2 victory. The sophomore earned the complete-game victory, striking out 11 DMACC batters. 

With the wins, the Lady Aggies improve to 30-0 on the season.

The Murray State College softball team takes on No. 18 North Iowa Area Community College and No. 7 Kirkwood Community College on Friday.
