Aggies Overpower NCTC

Murray State swept North Central Texas College on Thursday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TISHOMINGO, Okla. - The Murray State College baseball team used timely hitting and a big power surge to sweep a doubleheader from North Central Texas College, winning 11-5 in game one and 5-3 in game two.
 
Game 1: Murray State 11, North Central Texas 5
North Central Texas College jumped out to an early lead in the second inning, scoring three runs on a two-run double and an RBI single to take a 3-0 advantage.
 
Murray State responded in the bottom of the inning when Jackson Poage grounded out to bring home Marlon Moore, trimming the deficit to 3-1.
 
The Aggies took control in the third inning behind the long ball. Michael Barham launched a solo home run to right field to make it 3-2 before Tanner Norman followed with a two-run homer that scored Rayner Beene, giving Murray State a 4-3 lead.
 
Murray State added another run in the fourth inning when Barham delivered an RBI single that plated Poage and extended the lead to 5-3.
 
North Central Texas cut the margin to one in the fifth, but the Aggies answered with a huge inning at the plate. Cason Johnson blasted a two-run home run to center field, and later in the inning Brady Taylor crushed a three-run homer that scored Poage and Eli Ramirez, pushing the Aggies' lead to 10-4.
 
The Lions added a run in the sixth, but Murray State answered in the bottom half when Moore reached on a fielder's choice that allowed Norman to score, sealing the 11-5 victory.
 
Tayte Dome picked up another win as he went 4 â…” innings, striking out two and giving up three earned runs. Chance Baker fired 2 â…“ innings, striking out two and giving up just one run.
 
Game 2: Murray State 5, North Central Texas 3
North Central Texas struck first in the opening inning on a sacrifice fly to take a 1-0 lead.
 
The Aggies quickly tied the game in the bottom of the first when Taylor crossed the plate to make it 1-1.
 
Murray State moved ahead in the third inning when Beene delivered an RBI single to center field that scored Taylor and gave the Aggies a 2-1 advantage.
 
The Aggies added another run in the fourth inning when Brady LaViolette lifted a sacrifice fly to left field, allowing Moore to score and extend the lead to 3-1.
 
Barham continued his strong day at the plate in the fifth inning, launching a solo home run to left field to stretch the Murray State lead to 4-1.
 
NCTC rallied in the sixth inning with the help of an error and a sacrifice fly to cut the deficit to 4-3, but the Aggies kept the Lions off the board the rest of the way.
 
Murray State added an insurance run in the eighth inning when Sean Keenen came home on a wild pitch after LaViolette worked a walk, giving the Aggies a 5-3 lead. The Aggies closed out the victory to complete the doubleheader sweep.
 
Carson Culbreath started on the mound for the Aggies. Culbreath hurled four innings of one run baseball, striking out four. Hank Brown came on in relief and picked up the win as he threw four innings, while giving up one earned run. Isaac Gammel closed the door with a scoreless inning, striking out two.
 
The Aggies return to the diamond March 7 as they travel to take on North Central Texas College in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
