Box Score 2 CAMDEN, Ark. – The Murray State College softball team delivered an offensive showcase on the road Saturday, scoring 50 runs in a doubleheader sweep of SAU Tech, 20-0 and 30-2.
Game One: Murray State 20, SAU Tech 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Aggies wasted no time getting on the board in the top of the first inning. A passed ball allowed Brylee Fanning to score the game's first run in the opening frame.
Murray State broke the game wide open in a dominant second inning, plating 15 runs on a barrage of hits. Fanning highlighted the inning with a two-run home run to left field, part of a multi-hit performance. Avery Beauchamp added a two-run single, while Mercades Lopez drove in two more with a base hit. The power surge continued as Bubba Lee launched a two-run home run to center, followed by Fanning's second two-run homer of the inning. Jaliyah Simmons added a solo shot, and Lilly Wyche drove in another run with a double. Beauchamp capped the explosive frame with a three-run home run, pushing the Lady Aggies' lead to 16-0.
Murray State added to its total in the fourth inning as Lee connected for her second home run of the game. The Lady Aggies continued to string together quality at-bats, with Jordi Oakley, Ireland Groeber, and Kennedy Wardlaw each driving in runs to extend the lead to 20-0.
Isabella Hardeman earned her 20th victory in the circle, striking out three batters over three shutout innings. Addisyn Wright and DrewAnn White each threw a clean inning in relief to slam the door shut on SAU Tech, 20-0.
Game Two: Murray State 30, SAU Tech 2 (5 innings)
The Lady Aggies struck first in the opening inning as Lilly Wyche blasted a two-run home run to center field, scoring Cady Ammons to give Murray State an early 2-0 lead.
SAU Tech answered in the bottom half of the inning, using a run-scoring single and an error to even the score at 2-2.
That would be the last time the game was in question. Murray State responded with an explosive second inning, erupting for 15 runs behind a barrage of home runs. Bubba Lee started the scoring with an RBI double before Jaliyah Simmons launched a three-run homer. Avery Beauchamp followed with a three-run shot of her own, and Lee added another long ball in the inning. The power surge continued as Brylee Fanning crushed a two-run homer, Ammons added another two-run shot, and the Lady Aggies kept piling on with extra-base hits, including an RBI double from Kaylee Carter. By the end of the inning, Murray State had built a commanding 17-2 lead.
The Lady Aggies stayed hot in the third inning. Mercades Lopez opened the frame with a solo home run, while Jordi Oakley and Ireland Groeber each drove in runs to push the lead to 20-2.
Murray State added another run in the fourth on a sacrifice fly from Lopez before continuing its offensive onslaught in the fifth inning. Kennedy Wardlaw led off with a home run, and Lyndee Harless followed with an RBI double. Lopez added an RBI single, setting the stage for Lee's fourth home run on the day to extend the lead for the visitors from Tishomingo to 27-2. The Lady Aggies would tack on three more runs in the frame, capped off by another RBI single by Groeber.
Keelie Treat started the game in the circle for the Lady Aggies as she threw two innings. Rylan Peevyhouse recorded two shutout innings in relief, while Hailey Prince finished off the Rockets with a clean inning of her own.
With the two victories, Murray State improves to 43-1 on the season and a 10-0 mark in region play.
The Lady Aggies will have a few days off before traveling to Missouri for a doubleheader against Crowder College on Friday. First pitch is set for noon.
