Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team cruised past ASU-Newport as they earned a pair of victories this afternoon.
 
Game 1: Murray State 5, ASU-Newport 0
Murray State struck early in the first inning, taking advantage of a defensive miscue. Jaliyah Simmons reached on an error and raced all the way home to give the Lady Aggies a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning, Cady Ammons scored on a sac fly from Avery Beauchamp to extend the advantage to 2-0.
 
The Lady Aggies added to their lead in the third with aggressive baserunning and clutch hitting. Simmons and Brylee Fanning both stole bases before Ammons delivered a two-run single to right field, pushing the score to 4-0.
 
Murray State capped the scoring in the fifth inning when Kaylee Carter lined an RBI single to right field, bringing home Lilly Wyche for the final 5-0 margin.
 
Carolyn Overton earned the victory in the circle as she threw 6 ⅓ scoreless innings, striking out eight. Rylan Peevyhouse got the final two outs of the contest to complete the shutout.
 
Game 2: Murray State 9, ASU-Newport 1 (5 Innings)
In the first inning, Wyche launched a grand slam to center field, scoring Fanning, Simmons, and Ammons to give Murray State a commanding 4-0 lead.
 
Wyche stayed hot in the third inning, blasting a two-run home run to center to extend the lead to 6-0 and record her NJCAA-leading 19th home run of the season.
 
The offense kept rolling in the fourth inning when Fanning crushed a two-run homer, scoring Ryann Phillips to make it 8-0. Later in the inning, Ammons added another RBI with a single to right field, bringing home Simmons to push the lead to 9-0.
 
ASU-Newport managed a run in the fifth, but the outcome was never in doubt as Murray State secured the 9-1 run-rule victory.
 
Keelie Treat picked up the win as she fired three scoreless innings. Hailey Prince and Addisyn Wright each threw an inning in relief.
 
The Lady Aggies travel to Warner to take on Connors State College for a doubleheader on Monday. First pitch is set for 2:00 p.m.
