Box Score 2 TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team cruised past Arkansas State University Mid-South on Friday as they earned a pair of run-rule victories.
Game 1: Murray State 15, ASU Mid-South 0 (5 Innings)
The Lady Aggies struck first in the bottom of the opening frame when
Jaliyah Simmons lifted a sacrifice fly to center, allowing
Brylee Fanning to race home. That early 1-0 lead quickly ballooned.
Avery Beauchamp ripped a two-run double to left to score
Cady Ammons and
Lilly Wyche, and
Mercades Lopez followed with a two-run single to right, pushing the advantage to 5-0.
Murray State kept the pressure on in the second inning.
Kaylee Carter laced a double to bring in another run. Carter would come around to score on a passed ball. With two outs,
Ryann Phillips delivered again, driving a hard single to left that plated two more runs and extended the lead to 9-0.
The offensive onslaught continued into the third. Wyche doubled to score Ammons, and Beauchamp stayed hot at the plate with an RBI single. Lopez reached on an error that allowed another run to cross, stretching the margin to 12-0.
In the fourth, the Lady Aggies put the finishing touches on the run-rule victory.
Jordi Oakley drilled a two-run double to right, and
Kennedy Wardlaw capped the scoring with a sacrifice fly to bring home Oakley and make it 15-0.
Isabella Hardeman earned the victory in the circle as she threw 3 scoreless innings, striking out seven.
Rylan Peevyhouse and
Hailey Prince Wright each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Game 2: Murray State 13, ASU Mid-South 0 (5 Innings)
Just like in Game 1, the Lady Aggies wasted no time taking control. In the bottom of the first inning,
Lilly Wyche jumpstarted the offense with a two-run triple, bringing home
Brylee Fanning and
Cady Ammons. Moments later,
Kaylee Carter crushed a two-run home run to extend the lead to 4-0. Murray State wasn't done yet in the frame as
Ryann Phillips added an RBI single to score
Kennedy Wardlaw, capping a five-run opening inning.
The Lady Aggies kept pouring it on in the second. Wyche stayed red-hot at the plate, launching a solo home run to right field to make it 6-0. Wardlaw followed with an RBI triple, driving in Carter and stretching the lead to 7-0.
In the third inning, Murray State's aggressive baserunning continued to shine. Phillips swiped home to make it 8-0, and Fanning later crossed the plate on a passed ball to push the advantage to 9-0. Wyche struck again with her second triple of the game, driving in Ammons and extending the lead to 10-0.
The fourth inning put the finishing touches on another run-rule performance. Ammons delivered the biggest swing of the day, blasting a three-run home run that scored Fanning and
Jordi Oakley, sealing the 13-0 victory.
Keelie Treat picked up the win as she fired two scoreless innings.
DrewAnn White came on in relief and threw a scoreless third inning.
Addisyn Wright fired a scoreless frame.
Alanna Routt got the first two outs of the fifth inning, before
Carolyn Overton got the final out.
The Lady Aggies host ASU Newport for a doubleheader on Saturday. First pitch is set for noon
