Box Score 2 MALVERN, Ark. – The Murray State College softball team delivered a dominant performance on both sides of the ball, sweeping ASU–Three Rivers with a pair of run-rule victories, 10-0 and 9-0.
Game 1: Murray State 10, ASU-Three Rivers 0 (5 Innings)
Murray State opened the scoring in the third inning when
Brylee Fanning launched a solo home run to center field to give the Lady Aggies a 1-0 lead. Later in the inning,
Cady Ammons drove a triple to right field, scoring
Jaliyah Simmons to extend the advantage to 2-0.
Lilly Wyche followed with an RBI double to center field, bringing Ammons home and pushing the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Aggies added another run in the fourth inning when
Ryann Phillips singled to right field to score
Avery Beauchamp.
Murray State broke the game open in the fifth inning. Simmons blasted a solo home run to left field, and Wyche followed later with a two-run homer to right field, scoring Ammons to make it 7-0.
Jordi Oakley added an RBI groundout that scored
Lyndee Harless, and Phillips delivered another RBI single to bring home Beauchamp. Fanning capped the scoring with an RBI double to left field that scored Phillips, sealing the 10-0 run-rule victory for the Lady Aggies.
Isabella Hardeman earned the victory in the circle as she threw 3 scoreless innings, striking out six.
Rylan Peevyhouse and
DrewAnn White each threw a scoreless inning in relief.
Game 2: Murray State 9, ASU–Three Rivers 0 (6 Innings)
The Lady Aggies wasted no time getting on the scoreboard in the second game. Ammons doubled to center field in the first inning to score Fanning and give Murray State a 1-0 lead.
Murray State added another run in the second when Simmons lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed
Mercades Lopez to tag up and score, extending the lead to 2-0.
The Lady Aggies delivered the decisive blow in the fourth inning as Ammons blasted a grand slam to center field, bringing home Lopez, Phillips and Fanning to push the lead to 6-0.
Murray State continued to add insurance runs late in the game. Lopez singled to left field in the fifth inning to score
Bubba Lee, and in the sixth inning Wyche singled to right field to plate Ammons and Simmons, closing out the 9-0 victory.
Keelie Treat was outstanding in the circle as she fired five scoreless innings, while striking out seven.
Hailey Prince came on in relief and threw a scoreless inning.
The Lady Aggies return home to host ASU Mid-South for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for Friday at 4:00 p.m.
