TISHOMINGO, Okla. - The Murray State College baseball team opened Region 2 play this afternoon. The Aggies swept NOC-Enid, 8-1 and 9-8.
Game 1: Murray State 8, NOC-Enid 1
Murray State struck first in the bottom of the first inning with timely situational hitting.
Sean Keenen lifted a sacrifice fly to left field that allowed
Rayner Beene and
Michael Barham to score, giving the Aggies an early 2-0 advantage.
The Aggies added another run in the second inning. After aggressive baserunning put runners in scoring position,
Eli Ramirez lined a single to left field that brought home
Cason Johnson, extending the Murray State lead to 3-0.
Northern Oklahoma College–Enid got on the board in the top of the third inning on a solo home run to center field, trimming the deficit to 3-1.
Murray State answered immediately in the bottom half of the inning.
Cason Johnson grounded into a double play that allowed
Tanner Norman to cross the plate from third, pushing the Aggies' lead to 4-1.
The Aggies broke the game open in the fourth inning with a string of extra-base hits.
Rayner Beene started the rally with a line-drive double to center field that scored
Eli Ramirez. Moments later,
Tanner Norman doubled to center to bring home
Michael Barham and Beene.
Sean Keenen followed with a triple to left field that scored Norman and capped the scoring at 8-1.
Murray State's pitching staff held the Jets in check.
Tayte Dome got the start on the bump and picked up the win as he fired five innings, while striking out eight and giving up just one run.
Heath Graf came on in relief and threw two scoreless innings.
Game 2: Murray State 9, NOC-Enid 8
Murray State came out swinging in the bottom of the first inning.
Rayner Beene delivered a line-drive single to right field that scored
Brady Taylor to open the scoring. Later in the inning,
Tanner Norman blasted a two-run home run to center field that also brought home
Michael Barham, giving the Aggies an early 3-0 lead.
The Aggies extended their advantage in the second inning with more power at the plate.
Brady Taylor launched a three-run home run to center field that scored
Cason Johnson and
Jackson Poage, pushing the lead to 6-0. Later in the inning,
Rayner Beene added a two-run homer to left field that also scored Barham, stretching the Murray State lead to 8-0.
Northern Oklahoma College–Enid began its comeback in the third inning. Christensen lined a two-run single to center field, and Wakeland followed with an RBI single to cut the Murray State lead to 8-3.
The Jets continued to chip away in the later innings. Dunn hit a solo home run in the seventh inning to make it 8-4. In the eighth inning, Ervin connected on a two-run homer to right field, trimming the deficit to 8-6.
The comeback was completed in the ninth inning when Wakeland delivered a two-run home run to left field, tying the game at 8-8.
The Aggies, though, answered in dramatic fashion. In the bottom of the ninth inning, Murray State loaded the bases before
Marlon Moore lined a single to center field that scored Beene from third, sealing a 9-8 walk-off victory and completing the doubleheader sweep for the Aggies.
The Aggies travel to Enid to conclude the four-game series with NOC-Enid. First pitch is scheduled for Saturday at 1:00 p.m.
