Box Score 2 TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team continued their winning ways this afternoon with two victories over Crowder College, 9-0 and 8-5.
Game 1: Murray State 9, Crowder 0 (5 innings)
Murray State jumped ahead early in the bottom of the first inning, capitalizing on patience at the plate. With the bases loaded,
Kaylee Carter drew a walk to bring in
Jaliyah Simmons for the game's first run. Moments later,
Avery Beauchamp also worked a bases-loaded walk, scoring
Bubba Lee and giving the Lady Aggies a 2-0 advantage.
The Lady Aggies added to their lead in the third inning with a big swing from
Lilly Wyche. After working the count, Wyche launched a line-drive home run to center field, scoring Carter and extending the lead to 4-0.
Murray State continued to apply pressure in the fourth inning.
Cady Ammons delivered a sacrifice fly to center field that plated
Brylee Fanning and pushed the margin to 5-0.
The game was put out of reach in the fifth inning as the Lady Aggies' offense erupted again. Simmons sparked the rally with a line-drive triple to center field, bringing home
Mercades Lopez and
Ryann Phillips to make it 7-0. Shortly after, Lee sealed the run-rule victory with a two-run home run to left field, scoring Simmons and ending the contest at 9-0.
Isabella Hardeman was untouchable in the circle. The sophomore standout tossed a no-hitter, striking out seven and allowing just one walk to secure her 13th win of the season. She controlled the game from the start, keeping Crowder off balance throughout the contest while the Lady Aggies steadily built their lead.
Game 2: Murray State 8, Crowder 5 (9 Innings)
Crowder jumped out to an early lead as the visitors from Missouri scored five runs over the first two innings to take a 5-0 advantage.
Murray State began to chip away at the deficit in the bottom of the fourth inning.
Kaylee Carter put the Lady Aggies on the board with a solo home run to center field. Later in the inning,
Brylee Fanning delivered a double to left field that scored
Mercades Lopez, trimming the deficit to 5-2.
The Lady Aggies continued their comeback in the sixth inning when
Jaliyah Simmons lined a double to left field to score Fanning and cut the lead to two runs.
With runners in scoring position in the seventh inning,
Lilly Wyche delivered a clutch 2-RBI double to left field, scoring
Cady Ammons and Carter to tie the game at five and force extra innings.
The game remained tied until the bottom of the ninth inning when Murray State delivered the decisive blow. Pinch hitter
Jordi Oakley stepped to the plate and launched a walk-off three-run home run to center field, scoring Carter and
Avery Beauchamp to secure the 8-5 victory.
Bella Hardeman picked up her 14th win of the season as she threw the final two innings, striking out four.
Carolyn Overton fired three scoreless innings to keep Crowder at bay and give the Lady Aggies the chance they needed to mount the comeback.
With the sweep, the Lady Aggies are now 28-0 on the season.
The Murray State College softball team returns to the field Tuesday as they host Eastern Oklahoma State College in a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 1 p.m.
