Box Score 2 TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team swept Seward County Community College today in a doubleheader to record 10 consecutive wins to open their season. The Lady Aggies put together a dominant day at the plate and in the circle, sweeping Seward College with two run-rule victories, 16-3 and 12-0.
Game 1: Murray State 16, Seward 3 (5 innings)
Murray State broke the game open early, scoring eight runs in the bottom of the second inning to seize control.
Avery Beauchamp got the Lady Aggies on the board with an RBI single to center field, scoring
Cady Ammons. Later in the frame,
Lilly Wyche lifted a sacrifice fly to right to bring home two more runs before
Jaliyah Simmons cleared the bases with a three-run triple to right field. Simmons later scored on a sacrifice fly by
Bubba Lee, and a
Mercades Lopez RBI double capped the scoring to make it 8-0.
Seward County scratched across two runs in the top of the third, but Murray State quickly responded. In the bottom half of the inning, the Aggies sent 11 batters to the plate and plated eight more runs. Ammons drove in two with a single to left,
Kaylee Carter added an RBI triple, and RBI hits from Lopez, Wyche and
Ryann Phillips pushed the lead to 16-2.
Seward County added a run in the top of the fourth, but the Lady Aggies closed the door to secure the run-rule victory.
Keelie Treat earned her fourth victory on the young season, while
Rylan Peevyhouse and
DrewAnn White each threw an inning in relief.
Game 2: Murray State 12, Seward 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Aggies picked up right where they left off in the second game. Ammons opened the scoring in the first inning with an RBI triple to right field, bringing home Lee.
Murray State continued to pile on the runs in the next couple innings, powered by the long ball. Beauchamp launched a two-run home run in the second inning, then Lee and Ammons went back-to-back with solo shots in the third. Beauchamp followed with her second home run of the game, a two-run blast to left field.
The Aggies added more runs in the third, highlighted by a two-run single from Simmons, an RBI double by Lee, and RBI singles from Ammons and Lopez to push the advantage to 12-0.
With strong pitching and defense backing the offense, Murray State completed the sweep via the five-inning run rule.
The Lady Aggies pitching staff combined for a no-hitter as
Addisyn Wright dominated over four innings, while
DrewAnn White Carolyn Overton finished off the visitors in the final inning.
The Murray State College softball team returns to the field Feb. 9 for a home doubleheader against Indian Hills Community College. First pitch is set for noon.
