Box Score 2 TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team swept Western Texas today in a doubleheader. The Lady Aggies put together a dominant day at the plate and in the circle, sweeping Western Texas College with two run-rule victories, winning 15-0 and 9-0 both in five innings.
Game 1: Murray State 15, Western Texas 0 (5 innings)
The Lady Aggies controlled the opener from the first inning on, steadily building their lead before breaking the game open in the fourth.
After a scoreless top of the first, Murray State struck quickly in the bottom half with consecutive singles from
Brylee Fanning,
Jaliyah Simmons, and
Bubba Lee to get on the board. An RBI sacrifice fly by
Kaylee Carter and a bases-loaded walk extended the lead to 3-0.
The Lady Aggies added to the advantage in the second inning as Fanning tripled and later scored, while RBIs from
Jaliyah Simmons and Carter pushed the margin to 5-0. Murray State put the game away in the fourth with a ten-run outburst, using timely hitting and aggressive baserunning to turn the contest into a run-rule situation. RBI hits came from
Lilly Wyche,
Ryann Phillips, Fanning, Simmons, Lee,
Cady Ammons, Carter, and
Mercades Lopez.
In the circle,
Isabella Hardeman was dominant as she struck out six batters over four innings and
Rylan Peevyhouse finished off the game with a scoreless inning of work to give Murray State the victory, 15-0.
Game 2: Murray State 9, Western Texas 0 (5 innings)
After
Carolyn Overton worked a clean top of the first, the Lady Aggies jumped out front in the bottom half when
Bubba Lee launched a two-run home run to center field following a single by Simmons.
The second inning proved decisive.
Kennedy Wardlaw singled and scored on an RBI double by
Ryann Phillips, sparking a big inning.
Brylee Fanning followed with a two-run home run to left field,
Kaylee Carter added another two-run blast, and
Lilly Wyche capped the scoring with a two-run homer to right field, giving Murray State a 9-0 lead.
Murray State's pitching staff remained sharp the rest of the way, as Overton combined with
DrewAnn White,
Alanna Routt, and
Hailey Prince to keep Western Texas off the scoreboard and secure the sweep, 9-0.
The Lady Aggies return to the diamond tomorrow as they host Seward County Community College for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
