Box Score 2 TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team turned in a statement performance Saturday, sweeping No. 18 Cowley College in a doubleheader highlighted by dominant run-rule victories of 12-1 and 10-0.
Game 1: Murray State 12, Cowley 1 (5 innings)
Murray State wasted no time taking control, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the first inning. The Lady Aggies capitalized on early opportunities as
Brylee Fanning scored on a passed ball before
Jaliyah Simmons crossed the plate when
Cady Ammons reached on a Cowley error.
The scoring continued when
Kaylee Carter drove in a run with a groundout,
Lilly Wyche delivered an RBI triple to right field, and
Avery Beauchamp added an RBI single to give Murray State a commanding 5–0 lead.
The Lady Aggies extended their advantage in the second inning. Fanning came around to score on an RBI single from Simmons before Carter provided the biggest swing of the game — a three-run home run to right field that scored Simmons and Ammons, stretching the lead to 9–0.
Cowley pushed across its lone run in the top of the third inning on an RBI single, but Murray State quickly answered. Fanning sparked another rally with an RBI double that scored
Ryann Phillips, and
Bubba Lee followed with a sacrifice fly to make it 11–1.
The Lady Aggies tacked on a run in the fourth inning when Wyche drove in
Lyndee Harless with an RBI single, securing the 12–1 win.
Isabella Hardeman earned the win in the circle for the Lady Aggies as she threw four innings, while striking out four and giving up one run.
Addisyn Wright fired a 1-2-3 inning in relief.
Game 2: Murray State 10, Cowley 0 (5 Innings)
The Lady Aggies opened the scoring in the first inning when Ammons lined a two-run single to left field, bringing home Simmons and Fanning for a 2–0 lead.
Murray State broke the game open in the fourth inning. Wyche ignited the rally with an inside-the-park home run to extend the lead to 3–0. Beauchamp would come around to score later in the frame as Simmons followed with a sacrifice fly to plate Mariah Lopez.
Ammons continued her strong performance with another RBI single to score Phillips, and the Lady Aggies kept the pressure on. Wyche delivered a bases-clearing double that brought home Carter, Lee, and Ammons to stretch the advantage to 9–0. Beauchamp capped the scoring with an RBI single to center, driving in Wyche for the 10–0 win.
Carolyn Overton kept the Cowley hitters off balance all afternoon as she threw 4 ⅔ innings of scoreless softball.
Rylan Peevyhouse got the final out to secure the 10-0 run-rule victory for the Lady Aggies.
With the wins, the Lady Aggies improve to 26-0 on the season.
The Murray State College softball team hosts Crowder College on Sunday for a doubleheader. First pitch is set for noon.
