Box Score 2 STILLWATER, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team swept Dodge City Community College in a doubleheader with a 9-1 run-rule victory in Game 1 followed by an 8-0 run rule victory in Game 2. Both games were played at Oklahoma State University.
Murray State's first victory of the day over Dodge City was win No. 400 for Coach Mullens leading the Lady Aggies.
Game 1: Murray State 9, Dodge City 1 (5 innings)
Dodge City scored a run in the top of the first inning to take an early 1-0 lead.
Murray State responded immediately in the bottom half of the inning and never looked back.
Cady Ammons tied the game with a single to center that brought home
Jaliyah Simmons. The Lady Aggies quickly took the lead when
Kaylee Carter reached on a fielder's choice, allowing
Bubba Lee to score and push Murray State ahead 2-1.
The turning point came moments later as the Lady Aggies broke the game open with one swing.
Avery Beauchamp blasted a three-run home run to left field, scoring Ammons, Carter, and
Lilly Wyche to cap a five-run first inning and give Murray State a commanding 6-1 advantage.
The Lady Aggies continued to add insurance in the second inning. Simmons swiped second base to move into scoring position before Ammons delivered again, ripping a single to left field to bring her home and extend the lead to 7-1.
Murray State's offense stayed aggressive in the fourth inning. Simmons powered a solo home run to left field to make it 8–1, and Ammons later collected her third RBI of the game with another single to center that scored Lee for the final 9-1 margin.
Isabella Hardeman earned the win in the circle for the Lady Aggies as she threw three innings, striking out three and allowing only one run.
Addisyn Wright came on in relief to throw two scoreless innings.
Game 2: Murray State 8, Dodge City 0 (5 Innings)
Murray State wasted no time setting the tone, erupting for five runs in the bottom of the first inning. Simmons got the scoring started with a two-run home run to left field, bringing home
Brylee Fanning to give the Lady Aggies an early lead. Later in the inning, Carter delivered a three-run blast to center field, scoring Lee and Ammons to quickly extend the advantage to 5-0 before the visitors from Kansas could record an out.
The Lady Aggies continued their offensive surge in the fourth inning. Fanning added to the lead with a solo home run to center field, pushing the margin to 6-0. Murray State capped the scoring later in the frame when Wyche drove in two runs with a single to right field, scoring Ammons and Simmons for the final 8-0 score.
Carolyn Overton earned the win as she threw two scoreless innings, while striking out three batters.
Rylan Peevyhouse,
Keelie Treat, and
DrewAnn White each fired a scoreless inning in relief.
With the two victories today, the Lady Aggies push their record to 22-0 on the season.
The Murray State College softball team hosts Coffeyville Community College on Friday. First pitch is set for 12:00 p.m.
