MSC Softball picked up two wins on Day 1 of the Winter Blast Festival

DENISON, Texas – The Murray State College softball team continued their winning ways Thursday, cruising past Rose State College, 14-0, and Vernon College, 9–0.

Game 1: Murray State 14, Rose State College 0 (5 Innings)
Murray State's offense broke through in the third inning and never looked back, while Isabella Hardeman silenced Rose State's lineup all afternoon.

The Lady Aggies struck first in the top of the third. With two outs and runners on base, Cady Ammons reached on an error that plated two runs to give Murray State a 2-0 lead.

The fourth inning proved to be the turning point as the Lady Aggies exploded for six runs. Avery Beauchamp and Lilly Wyche reached to set the table before Ryann Phillips delivered an RBI single. Jaliyah Simmons followed with an RBI fielder's choice, and Ammons cleared the bases with a three-run triple to right field. Kaylee Carter capped the inning with an RBI double, stretching the advantage to 8-0.

Murray State added more insurance in the fifth. Brylee Fanning drove in a run with a double, and Bubba Lee followed with a two-run single. Ammons stayed hot at the plate with an RBI single before Carter collected her second double of the game, bringing home two more runs to push the lead to 14-0.

Isabella Hardeman was dominant once again in the circle as she overpowered Rose State hitters all afternoon, en route to a complete-game shutout with seven punchouts while only allowing one hit.

Game 2: Murray State 9, Vernon College 0 (6 innings)
The Lady Aggies wasted no time getting on the board in the first inning. After a leadoff walk by Fanning, Ammons delivered an RBI single to center to score the game's first run and give Murray State an early 1-0 edge.

Murray State added to its lead in the second with extra-base power. Fanning sparked the inning with an RBI triple to plate Wyche, and Simmons followed with an RBI double to stretch the advantage to 3-0.

The Lady Aggies brought two more home in the third inning on a Beauchamp sacrifice fly that plated Mercades Lopez and Ammons, pushing the lead to 5-0.

Defensively, Murray State turned in the highlight of the afternoon in the bottom of the fourth inning. With two runners on and no outs, the Lady Aggies executed a rare triple play to erase Vernon's threat and maintain control of the game.

Ammons added to the cushion in the fifth with a solo home run to center field, making it 6-0. Murray State put the finishing touches on the win in the sixth inning. Fanning drove in another run with an RBI double, and Simmons followed with a two-run home run to center to cap the scoring at 9-0.

The Lady Aggies' pitching staff combined for a shutout effort as Carolyn Overton began with four scoreless innings, while DrewAnn White and Hardeman threw an inning in relief to close the door in the sixth inning and secure the run-rule victory.

The Murray State College softball team continues play in the Winter Blast Festival tomorrow as they take on Highland Community College and North Central Texas College. First pitch is set for 11:15 a.m.
