SEMINOLE, Okla. – The No. 25 Murray State College men's basketball team opened Region 2 play with a gritty 72–69 road victory over Seminole State College on Monday night.
The Aggies took control early and carried a 30–27 lead into halftime.
Seminole State mounted a push early in the second half, cutting into the Aggies' lead and taking the lead briefly. Each time the Trojans trimmed into the lead, the Aggies answered back. Murray State executed down the stretch to hold on for the three-point victory.
Haki Muhammad II scored a game-high 21 points and went a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line.
Ashton Smith added 16 points, while
Abeeng Agot delivered a strong all-around performance with 14 points and a team-high seven rebounds to anchor the Aggies inside.
Additional contributions came from
Tayesen Combs, who finished with six points and six rebounds, and
Devon MacCollister, who added six points off the bench.
Murray State shot 35.5 percent from the field but made the most of its opportunities at the free-throw line, finishing at 80.8 percent for the game.
With the win, the Aggies improve to 12-3 on the season and 1-0 in Region 2 play.
Murray State College returns to the court Jan. 8 for a road contest against NOC-Enid. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
