TISHOMINGO, Okla. — The Murray State College men's basketball team overcame a late nine-point deficit to earn a hard-fought victory over Redlands Community College inside Beames Fieldhouse tonight, 83-79.
The Aggies used a late run in the first half to take a three-point advantage into the break, 35-32. The second half saw several lead changes as the Cougars took their largest lead with 8 minutes and 30 seconds remaining, 62-53.
However, the Aggies scored 10 of the next 11 points to take back the lead with 5 minutes and 58 seconds left, 64-63. The teams would exchange baskets the rest of the way, but the hosts were able to get enough defensive stops and convert their free throws to secure the victory, 83-79.
Five Aggies scored in double figures tonight as
Abeeng Agot paced the hosts with 17 points.
Malachi Schilreff tallied 13 points and grabbed a team-leading seven rebounds.
Haki Muhammad II registered 14 points, while
Aymen Kraria poured in 13 and
Tayesen Combs scored nine points in the victory.
Freshman
Domantas Šarauskas chipped in 7 points, while
Ashton Smith,
Kristupas Grybas, and
Tom Sutton provided valuable minutes off the bench.
Murray State shot 43.3% from the field and 76.2% from the free-throw line in the balanced team effort.
The Aggies return to the court for a road game on Jan. 15 against Connors State College. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
