SEMINOLE, Okla. – The All-Region women's basketball teams were announced for Region 2, and several Lady Aggies were recognized for their success on the court this season.
Ongolea Afu was named the Region 2 Most Valuable Player (MVP), while
Arissa Garcia joined her teammate on the Region 2 First Team. Meanwhile,
Mya Cotto was named the Newcomer of the Year and earned Second-Team honors.
Coach Nate Levine was also tabbed as the Region 2 Co-Coach of the Year.
Ongolea Afu has been a monster on the boards this year as the sophomore has tallied a team-best 13.2 rebounds per game, which puts her at third in the country in rebounding. Afu has also added 12.2 points per contest while dishing out 49 assists and tallying 47 steals on the season.
Arissa Garcia has controlled the game for the Lady Aggies this season as she leads the team in assists (165) and steals (74). Garcia has also been efficient from the three-point line as she has converted on a team-best 34.1% of her attempts behind the line. The sophomore has added 10.7 points per game while grabbing 5 rebounds per contest.
Mya Cotto leads the Lady Aggies in scoring with 15.4 points per game on 47.8% shooting. The sophomore guard has also been a pest defensively as she has registered 66 steals this year while snatching 4 rebounds per game.
Coach Levine was named the Co-Coach of the Year for leading the Lady Aggies to the Region 2 Regular Season Title. Murray State went an impressive 15-1 in region play and are currently ranked No. 19 in the latest NJCAA rankings with a 25-3 record.
The Lady Aggies play in the Region 2 Tournament on Thursday at 6:00 p.m. in Muskogee.
