PLANO, Texas – The Murray State College men's basketball team saw their seven-game win streak snapped this afternoon at the Collin College Thanksgiving Classic on Friday with a 92–75 loss to No. 22 New Mexico Junior College.
The nationally ranked Thunderbirds used a fast start and a big first half to create early separation, taking a 52–33 lead into the locker room before holding off the Aggies down the stretch.
The Aggies showed strong fight in the second half, outscoring NMJC for long stretches and putting together several offensive bursts, but the early deficit proved too much to overcome against one of the nation's top teams.
Haki Muhammad II scored 22 points, while
Abeeng Agot recorded an efficient 17 points while adding a couple blocks.
Ashton Smith chipped in 9, and
Tayesen Combs finished with 7 points.
Additional scoring for the Aggies included
Aymen Kraria and
Malachi Schilreff with 6 apiece,
Tom Sutton with 4,
Kristupas Grybas with 3, and
Domantas Šarauskas with 1.
The Aggies will look to get back to their winning ways tomorrow when they battle Southeast Arkansas Community College in both team's final game of the Collin College Thanksgiving Classic. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m.
