Box Score HIGHLAND, Kan. - Murray State College women's basketball opened its 2025–26 season with a hard-fought 70-65 loss on the road to Johnson County Community College on Friday night.
The Aggies came out strong, leading 17–13 after the first quarter thanks to efficient shooting and solid team defense. Johnson County answered back in the second quarter, outscoring Murray State 18–10 to take a 31–27 advantage into halftime.
The Cavaliers extended their lead with a big third quarter, using a 25–6 run to go up 56–33 heading into the fourth. Despite the deficit, Murray State showed tremendous fight in the final period, storming back with a 32-point explosion to cut the lead to just five by the final buzzer.
Aniah Richard led the Aggies with 17 points off the bench, while
Emily Steven and
Keshanti Gordon each tallied double figures with 12 and 11 points, respectively.
Eliece Perry contributed with seven points and grabbed a team-high seven rebounds, including three offensive rebounds.
The Aggies shot 37.5% from the field, 30.8% from three, and 69.2% from the free-throw line, while Johnson County shot 37.7% from the field, 29.4% from three, and 73.5% from the charity stripe.
Murray State returns to action tomorrow as they take on Highland Community College. Tip off is set for 1 p.m.
