Arissa Garcia pumped in 12 second half points and
Ongolea Afu connected for eight in a decisive third period to spur Murray State to a 76-72 conference win over visiting Eastern Junior College Thursday night inside Beames Fieldhouse.
Eastern held a slim 19-17 edge after one stanza before Murray answered in the second frame to forge a 35-all halftime deadlock in a nip-and-tuck opening half.
Afu then turned it on inside in the following period as Garcia and
Mireia Casas each connected for five in pushing the Lady Aggies in front for good.
The Mountaineers put together a comeback in the fourth, narrowing the gap, but Garcia and
Tierra Williams each drained three pointers and Garcia also sank four consecutive free throws to hold the visitors at bay.
Afu tallied a team-high 19 points in leading four Murray State players in double digits. Garcia posted 17 with Casas adding 14 and
Sosefina Langi connecting for 12.
Hannah Pinney narrowly missed double figures with nine as Williams checked in with three and
Eva Serra had two.
Murray State improved to 11-6 on the season and evened its league record at 3-3 with another home game slated for Saturday in a makeup outing against Northern Oklahoma College-Enid at 5:30 p.m.
