Two early goals staked Murray State to the lead which the Aggies' soccer team never relinquished in a key 4-2 conference victory over Connors State on Sunday afternoon.

The win helped the Aggies rebound from a disastrous loss on Wednesday to improve to 2-1 in league play with a 10-day break before their next outing on September 13 at home against Eastern Oklahoma State.

Freshman Joshua Adeyemi started a spectacular day on a strong note with the game's opening goal off a header in front of the Connors State net only three and a half minutes into the contest.

Murray State quickly made it 2-0 just three minutes later with a Carl Murch header into the left side of the net off a corner pass assist from Joel Green.

The visiting Cowboys however maintained possession most of the remainder of the first half, but were limited to just one goal on eight attempts.

Coach John Connor's squad responded after intermission, returning the favor by dominating possession on their end for most of the final 45 minutes with 13 shots on goal to just a pair for the Cowboys.

Adeyemi added another score to push the lead to 3-1 at the 25:45 mark of the second half when he maneuvered through traffic and snuck a shot just over the goal line.

Connors State took advantage of an Aggie penalty in the goal box to narrow the gap with a penalty kick with 14:29 to play. Lucas Peruzo however scored on a breakaway goal behind the Cowboy defense at the 9:12 mark to put the victory on ice.

"We needed to fix a few tactical things at halftime after they controlled the possession most of the first half," Coach Connor said afterward. "Once we made those corrections, we looked a lot better in the second half. It was nice to get those two early goals and then we did a good job in the second half against a good team.

"Josh's speed and technical ability was too much for them today. He was definitely the man of the match. We needed to come back and get this win after a bad day at the office on Wednesday and it's good to get a little break to rest before a big match with Eastern."
