Jewel Smalls was named Assistant Coach for the Women's Basketball program in July 2023.
Prior to her start Murray State College, Coach Jewel excelled in a prosperous basketball career extending close to a decade. Her tenure resulted in breaking many records, winning several championships, and achieving many other accolades.
Coach Jewel attended and graduated from the University of Delaware with an accomplished 3 year career from 2020-2023. Jewel utilized her time at Delaware to push past her comfort zone and grow into the well-rounded individual she is today. While at Delaware, she helped lead the team to an NCAA tournament appearance in the '21-22 season. That year, the team finished 24-8. She also set many records during her time, including setting the single-game record for 3-pointers made, with 8 made 3's at James Madison, a record previously held by WNBA Superstar Elena Della Donne. This set Jewel on a path to success and she officially concluded her career totaling 1,261 points, 744 rebounds, 214 assists, 160 steals, 39 blocks, and 14 doubles-doubles.
From 2018-2020 Coach Jewel attended Western Carolina University. She garnered many accolades in her time including 2019 SoCon Freshman of the Year, November 2019 SoCon Player of the Month, and made all conference teams both seasons. She recorded 11 doubles doubles her sophomore season, which is the most recorded in Catamount program history.
Coach Jewel is a Roswell, Georgia native. She graduated from McEachern High school in Powder Springs, Georgia where she was a member of the 2017 state championship team.
