ARDMORE and TISHOMINGO, Okla. - Murray State College has announced the hiring of
Travis Burdine as the inaugural head coach of the Aggies men's and women's flag football programs. Burdine will lead the launch of Oklahoma's first collegiate flag football program at a public college.
"We are excited to welcome Coach Burdine to Murray State College as the first head flag football coach in school history," said Justin Cellum, Murray State College Executive Vice President. "His passion for developing student-athletes and his experience in coaching and strength training made him a tremendous fit to build this program from the ground up."
Burdine brings more than 15 years of coaching and student-athlete development experience to Tishomingo. Most recently, he served as Defensive Coordinator at Mount St. Mary's High School while also working in athletic performance and fitness leadership roles.
Â
Previously, Burdine was the Head Football Coach at Western Heights High School and coached multiple sports at Classen SAS at Northeast, along with stops at Douglass and Prague High Schools.
"Launching this program represents an exciting step forward for our institution and for the growth of collegiate athletics in Oklahoma," said Dr. Tim Faltyn, Murray State College President. "Coach Burdine's commitment to student-athlete success and leadership makes him the right person to build a strong foundation for Aggie flag football."
Â
Burdine will immediately begin recruiting and building the foundation for the program's roster ahead of the Aggies' first season in the Spring of 2027. For the program's inaugural season, Ardmore City Schools has partnered with Murray State College to provide access to its high school football stadium, giving student-athletes the opportunity to compete in a premier venue while the college continues pursuing significant on-campus athletic facility enhancements.
"I'm beyond excited and truly honored to accept the opportunity to become Murray State's Flag Football Head Coach," said Coach Burdine. "Being part of history as we build Oklahoma's first collegiate flag football program at a public institution is a blessing I do not take lightly. I'm ready to lead, inspire and continue the existing championship culture built on hard work, passion and opportunity for young athletes. The future is bright. This is only the beginning."
