No. 13 Aggies Storm Past Cougars

Murray State swept Redlands on Saturday

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 WATONGA, Okla. - The Murray State College baseball team swept both games Saturday, outscoring Redlands Community College, 26-2, in the doubleheader.
 
Game 1: Murray State 9, Redlands 0
Murray State College jumped on Redlands early and never let up, cruising to a 9-0 shutout victory in Game 1 of the doubleheader.
 
The Aggies wasted no time in the top of the first inning. Brady Taylor reached base and moved into scoring position before Michael Barham drove him in with an RBI single to right field. Moments later, Tanner Norman delivered a big two-run double to left, bringing home Barham and Rayner Beene to extend the lead to 3-0. Norman later scored on a fielder's choice by Marlon Moore, capping a four-run opening frame.
 
The Aggies added more in the seventh inning to put the game away. Norman continued his strong day at the plate with an RBI single to center, scoring Barham. Cason Johnson followed with a bases-loaded walk to force in another run, and Brady LaViolette broke things open with a three-run double to left, pushing the lead to 9-0.
 
Murray State's pitching staff was tremendous. Eli Ramirez got the start and fired four scoreless innings, while striking out seven to pick up the win. Brance Garrett came on in relief to hurl three scoreless frames, securing the shutout victory for the Aggies in game one.
 
Game 2: Murray State 17, Redlands 2
The Aggies struck first in the fourth inning when LaViolette lined a single to center, scoring Moore for a 1-0 lead. Redlands answered in the bottom half with a three-run double to take a 3-1 advantage.
 
Murray State responded emphatically in the fifth inning with one of its biggest offensive frames of the season. Johnson tied the game with a two-run single, scoring Keenen and Norman. Eli Ramirez followed with an RBI double to right, bringing home Moore to give the Aggies the lead. Barham added a two-run single, scoring Ramirez and Johnson.
 
With the bases loaded, Norman drew a walk to force in another run. Keenen then broke the game wide open with a three-run double to center, plating Norman, Barham, and Beene. Moore capped the inning with an RBI single to score Keenen, completing a 10-run outburst and giving Murray State an 11-3 lead.
 
The Aggies kept rolling in the sixth inning. Taylor crushed a three-run home run to right field, scoring LaViolette and Ramirez. Later in the inning, Keenen reached on an error that allowed Beene to score, extending the lead to 15-3.
 
Murray State added even more in the seventh. Ramirez singled to bring home Johnson, and Barham delivered the final blow with a towering grand slam over the left field fence, scoring LaViolette, Ramirez, and Taylor to cap the scoring at 20-3.
 
Carson Culbreath got the ball for the Aggies. Culbreath earned the win as he hurled four innings, while striking out five and allowing three runs. Isaac Gammel and Chance Baker each recorded scoreless appearances as Gammel threw two innings and Baker fired one.
 
The Aggies return home to take on Northern Oklahoma College - Tonkawa on Thursday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 1:00 p.m. This is also Sophomore Day for the Aggies.
