No. 2 Lady Aggies Stymie Bucks

No. 2 Murray State Swept UA Rich Mountain on Thursday

TISHOMINGO, Okla. – The Murray State College softball team put together a dominant day on the diamond, sweeping a doubleheader against UA Rich Mountain behind timely hitting and great pitching.
 
Game 1: Murray State 8, UA Rich Mountain 0 (6 Innings)
In game one, the Lady Aggies broke things open early and never looked back. Murray State struck in the second inning when Avery Beauchamp delivered an RBI single to score Lilly Wyche. The inning quickly turned into a big rally as Ryann Phillips drove in two runs with a line-drive single, bringing home Mercades Lopez and Bubba Lee. Brylee Fanning followed with a sacrifice fly to extend the lead to 4-0.
 
In the fourth inning, Kaylee Carter drew a bases-loaded walk that scored Jaliyah Simmons to increase Murray State's lead to five.
 
The Lady Aggies put the finishing touches on the run-rule victory in the fifth inning on a Fanning RBI double, an RBI single from Simmons, and a run-scoring double by Cady Ammons. The balanced offensive attack secured an 8-0 win.
 
Isabella Hardeman was outstanding as she earned the complete-game shutout, striking out five over five innings.
 
Game 2: Murray State 5, UA Rich Mountain 0
Murray State got on the board in the second inning when Lopez drove in Carter with a single. In the third, Ammons continued her strong day at the plate with an RBI single to score Phillips.
 
Ammons provided the biggest swing of the game later in the contest as she blasted a home run to center field to push the lead to 3-0. The Lady Aggies added insurance runs in the sixth inning as Lopez picked up another RBI with a single and Jordi Oakley added a run-scoring hit to extend the lead to 5-0.
 
Murray State would keep firm control of the game thanks to great pitching and defense. Carolyn Overton was phenomenal in the circle as she earned the complete-game one-hit shutout. Overton struck out four over seven innings of work.
 
The Lady Aggies travel to Arkansas to complete the season series with UA Rich Mountain on Saturday. First pitch of the doubleheader is set for 2:00 p.m.
