No. 10 Aggies Pick Up Pair of Road Wins

Murray State swept UA Rich Mountain on Thursday

MENA, Ark. - The Murray State College baseball team swept UA Rich Mountain on Thursday. The Aggies won the first game, 9-4, and the second game, 10-5.
 
Game 1: Murray State 9, UA Rich Mountain 4
Murray State struck first in the top of the first inning when Michael Barham scored on a sacrifice fly from Sean Keenen, giving the Aggies an early 1–0 advantage.
 
The Aggies extended their lead in the second inning as Brady Taylor launched a two-run home run to right field, bringing home Brady LaViolette and pushing the score to 3–0.
 
Murray State broke the game open in the third inning. Rayner Beene started the frame with a solo home run to left field to make it 4–0. Later in the inning, aggressive baserunning helped the Aggies add to the lead as Tanner Norman scored on a passed ball and Sean Keenen stole home. Fernando Jorge later crossed the plate on a fielder's choice by Eli Ramirez, extending the Murray State lead to 7–0.
 
UA Rich Mountain got on the board in the bottom of the third inning, trimming the lead to 7–1.
 
The Aggies answered in the fourth inning when Tanner Norman delivered an RBI double to right field, scoring Rayner Beene to push the lead to 8–1.
 
Murray State added its final run in the sixth inning when Michael Barham crushed a solo home run to left field, giving the Aggies a 9–1 advantage.
 
The Bucks attempted a late comeback with three runs over the final two innings, but the Aggies held on for the 9–4 victory.
 
Tayte Dome threw 6 â…“ innings, while striking out seven and allowing three earned runs. Peyton Eichler came on in relief to get the final two outs.
 
Game 2: Murray State 10, UA Rich Mountain 5
Murray State got the scoring started early in Game 2. In the top of the first inning, Tanner Norman delivered a line-drive single to center field that brought home Michael Barham, giving the Aggies a 1–0 lead.
 
The Aggies broke the game open in the second inning with a big offensive rally. Eli Ramirez singled to left field to score Fernando Jorge and Marlon Moore, extending the lead to 3–0. Shortly after, Brady Taylor added another RBI single that plated Jackson Poage and made the score 4–0.
 
Murray State continued the inning when Michael Barham lined a two-run double to right field, scoring Brady Taylor and Eli Ramirez to push the lead to 6–0. Sean Keenen followed with an RBI single to left field that scored Barham, capping the five-run inning and giving the Aggies a commanding 7–0 advantage.
 
UA Rich Mountain responded in the bottom of the second inning with an RBI single to make it 7–1. The Bucks then cut deeper into the deficit in the third inning on a grand slam to left field, trimming the Murray State lead to 7–5.
 
The Aggies answered in the sixth inning when Marlon Moore hit a sac fly to right field that allowed Michael Barham to tag up and score, extending the lead to 8–5.
 
Murray State added two insurance runs in the seventh inning. Brady Taylor drove in Jackson Poage with a sacrifice fly to left field, and Braden Hitchcock followed with a line-drive single to left field that brought home Eli Ramirez, pushing the lead to 10–5.
 
The Aggies held UA Rich Mountain scoreless the rest of the way to secure the victory and complete the sweep.
 
Caden Allen got the start and went three innings. Hank Brown came on in relief and was nearly untouchable as he went six scoreless innings, while striking out six and only giving up one hit.
 
The Aggies return home as they host UA Rich Mountain on Saturday for a doubleheader. First pitch is scheduled for 1:00 p.m.
