TISHOMINGO, Okla. - For the second consecutive day, the Murray State College baseball team earned two lopsided victories over Southeast Arkansas College, highlighted by
Michael Barham's big day at the plate.
Game 1: Murray State 10, Southeast Arkansas 2
Murray State jumped out early in the opener and never looked back. The Aggies plated two runs in the bottom of the first when
Rayner Beene ripped a two-run double to bring home
Michael Barham and
Brady Taylor.
The offense kept rolling in the second inning. A wild pitch allowed
Marlon Moore to score, and
Grey Johnson followed with a two-run double to stretch the lead to 5–0. Barham added a sacrifice fly later in the inning to make it 6–0.
Murray State added to the cushion in the fourth as Beene delivered his second RBI double of the game before
Tanner Norman launched a two-run home run to right field, pushing the Aggies ahead 9–0.
Southeast Arkansas got on the board with a two-run homer in the fifth, but Murray State answered in the sixth when Barham drove in Johnson with an RBI single to secure the 10–2 victory.
Game 2: Murray State 13, Southeast Arkansas 3
The second game saw Southeast Arkansas strike first, but the Aggies quickly responded and seized control with a series of big innings.
After the Sharks scored in the top of the second,
Cason Johnson tied the game in the bottom half with an RBI double that scored Moore.
Southeast Arkansas briefly regained the lead in the third, but Murray State answered with a sacrifice fly from Moore and then took the lead for good on an error that allowed
Tanner Norman to score.
The decisive moment came in the fourth inning. Beene crushed a three-run home run to right field, scoring Taylor and Barham, and
Sean Keenen followed immediately with a solo shot to center. Later in the inning, Murray State added another run to take an 8–2 advantage.
Barham continued his big day at the plate in the fifth with a two-run home run, and after Southeast Arkansas scored once in the sixth, Barham put an exclamation point on the sweep with a three-run homer in the bottom of the inning to close out the 13–3 win.
The Aggies return to the diamond on Monday, Feb. 9 to take on Dallas College - North Lake. First pitch is set for 12 p.m.
