ARDMORE, Okla. – The Murray State College women's golf team opened its season with a strong group performance, placing six players inside the top 10 during its matchup against North Central Texas College this afternoon. The Lady Aggies showcased depth across the lineup, with
Amiya Raja leading the way.
Raja carded rounds of 81 (+9) and 76 (+4) to finish at +13 overall, earning second place in the individual standings. She was followed closely by teammate
Hana Cunnane, who battled back after a difficult first round (+12) with a strong second round (+2), securing third place at +14.
Gabby Hack also showed improvement, recording rounds of 86 (+14) and 75 (+3) for a +17 total, good for fourth place. Teammates
Emma Hardison and
Isabella Stevens tied for fifth at +19, while
Paula Gorostiaga Alvarez finished ninth at +28.
The Lady Aggies continued to stack the leaderboard, placing
Madison Caldwell in a tie for 10th (+30),
Erin Gray in 13th (+32), and
Caressa Woods and
Enora Castillon sharing 15th at +36. Freshman
Jade Airington, competing in her first collegiate round, gained valuable experience this afternoon.
North Central Texas College's Katy Merchant earned the top spot on the leaderboard, finishing at +9 after rounds of 75 (+3) and 78 (+6).
Coach Coppedge praised his team's showing in the early season test. "The girls battled through 36 holes today, shaking off the first-round jitters to post a fantastic second round. Our freshman stepped up and played exceptionally well, and it was thrilling to see the team secure the Red River Cup with a 9-1 victory!"
The Aggies will look to build on this momentum in their next tournament as they travel to New Mexico to compete in the Poss High County Shootout starting on September 22.
