Box Score ARDMORE, Okla. - The Murray State Lady Aggies came out swinging in Thursday's matchup against Western Oklahoma State, racking up six runs in the bottom of the first inning, including a pair of big home runs that set the tone early.
Brylee Fanning got things started for Murray State with a four-pitch walk, setting the tone for a patient and aggressive inning at the plate.
Cady Ammons delivered a clutch RBI single to center, scoring Fanning. Moments later,
Kaylee Carter crushed a three-run homer over the center field wall, pushing the Aggies' lead to 4–0. The damage didn't stop there —
Adison Lee added a single, and
Kennedy Lord followed with a two-run bomb to deep center, making it 6–0 after one.
The Lady Pioneers got a run back in the top of the second inning on an RBI groundout by Lizzie Williams.
Murray State and Western Oklahoma State each tallied two runs to make the score 8-3.
In the bottom of the fifth inning,
Haili Igou delivered an RBI single. An error by the right fielder allowed two more Murray State runners to score and give the Aggies an 11-3 win on Thursday night.
Isabella Hardeman earned her 25th victory of the season in the circle, while
Bradi Harman threw one inning in relief.Â
"I was very proud of our performance today," said Coach Mullens. "We set the tone early with big homeruns from Kaylee and Kennedy. Bella and Bradi weren't as sharp as they have been all year, but I attribute that to the 6 day competition layoff. They were a little rusty, but it was really good to see them work through it. I was very happy to see our team celebrate each other and the walk off hit by Haili. It's been awhile since we truly celebrated and enjoyed a big moment. I feel as though that could be a big momentum swing for our team moving forward in postseason play."
With the win, Murray State advances to play UA Rich Mountain on Friday at 4:00 p.m. The winner of this matchup will advance to the championship game and be one win away from winning the Region II Southwest Plains Softball Tournament and earning an automatic berth to the National Tournament.
