OXFORD, Ala. — The Murray State College softball team rebounded after a close loss earlier in the day to eliminate Johnson County and advance in the NJCAA Division II World Series.

No. 3 Jones College bested the Lady Aggies in the afternoon game today, 1-0, to send Murray State College to the loser's bracket and a matchup with No. 10 Johnson County tonight.

Murray State College kept its season alive in dominant fashion Thursday night, rolling past Johnson County Community College 18-8 to remain in contention at the NJCAA Division II World Series in Oxford, Alabama.

The Aggies wasted no time getting on the board, scoring a run in the top of the first on an RBI single by Kaylee Carter.

The floodgates opened in the second inning as Murray State capitalized on a Johnson County error, two walks, and three hits—capped off by an inside-the-park grand slam by catcher Cady Ammons—to plate six runs and take a commanding 7-0 lead.

Johnson County scratched across a run in the bottom of the second on an RBI single by Katie Kolarik.

Murray State added three more in the third, with Addison Lee starting the rally with a single and later scoring. Two more runs came across on a groundout and a throwing error, stretching the Aggies' lead to 10-1.

The Aggies added two more in the fourth. After Ammons drew a leadoff walk and was replaced by pinch runner Kendyl Overton, Carter and Kennedy Lord followed with back-to-back singles to load the bases. Avery Beauchamp drove in a run with a fielder's choice, and Ryann Phillips added an RBI groundout to stretch the lead to 12-1.

The Lady Aggies tacked on six more runs in the top of the fifth inning. Carter crushed a grand slam over the left field fence to start the frame. An RBI groundout by Lexi Meadows and an RBI single by Cadence Chambliess put the finishing touches on the contest, giving Murray State an 18-8 victory over Johnson County.

With the win, Murray State College keeps its championship hopes alive and improves to an incredible 62-2 record on the season. The Lady Aggies will square off against No. 1 St. John River State College at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow. If Murray State wins, they will play again at 6:00 p.m. for a chance to advance to the Championship Game.
