Lady Aggies claim league lead with NEO win

MIAMI, Okla. – In a much-awaited Thursday night showdown, the Murray State Lady Aggies claimed sole possession of first place in the Region 2 standings with an impressive 80-63 road win over previous co-leader Northeastern Oklahoma A&M.

The Lady Aggies notched five double figure scorers, including a season-high 23 points from freshman Keshanti Gordon as they took a 22-21 lead at the end of one period and steadily pulled away from there.

Murray State outscored the hosts 23-13 in the second stanza to push the margin to double digits at halftime and added another 21-14 scoring flurry in the third period behind a nine-point outburst from Gordon.

"We stuck to the scouting report, played extremely hard and knocked down shots," head coach Nate Levine commented. "We took care of the ball much better. This was a huge win for us."

Gordon was virtually unstoppable, popping in 10 points over her previous season-best mark. Mya Cotto pumped in 14 points, Olivia Quapaw had 12 while Arissa Garcia and Ongolea Afu tossed in 11 points apiece.

Latai Charles scored three as Mireia Casas, Taja Bennett and Elyssia Brooks pitched in two each.

The Lady Aggies, who improved to 23-3 overall and 13-1 in league play, will have their final home game of the season on Monday when they face Eastern Oklahoma State College at 5:30.
