EL RENO, Okla. – The rugged Region 2 nightly battle lived up to billing on Monday with Redlands Community College toppling the Murray State Aggies, 79-70, in men's basketball action.
The Aggies slide to 19-7 overall and 8-5 in league play with Redlands just behind that in the standings with a 19-8 record as well as 7-6 in conference. Murray State travels to Northeastern Oklahoma A&M on Thursday for its next outing against the Norsemen.
Murray State trailed 35-30 at the half and Redlands cashed in at the charity stripe, sinking 21 of 25 free throw attempts after the break to hold the Aggies at bay.
The Cougars built the advantage to double figures early in the second half before a final Murray push to close the gap.
Bol Agu's conventional three-point play with 1:22 remaining got the Aggies within 75-68 but that's as close as Coach Josh Davis' club could get the rest of the way.
Agu tossed in 17 points, hitting 11 of 13 free throws and pumping in 15 points following intermission. Chanon Fry also scored 10 of his 12 points after halftime with
Elijah Tshibangu contributing 17 points on the strength of four three-point field goal.
RJ Chatman added eight points,
Isaac Jones scored seven,
Rustin Coffey had six and
Abeeng Agot notched three.
