LOSKOP DAM, South Africa – Murray State College angler - Jackson Roumbanis - delivered a brilliant performance on the international stage, winning the Tri-Nations Bass Tournament at Loskop Dam in South Africa while helping Team USA secure the overall team championship. Representing the United States alongside fellow Aggie Gabe Morrow, Roumbanis showcased consistency and poise throughout the multi-day event, steadily climbing the leaderboard before ultimately finishing as the top individual angler with 29.07 pounds of fish, edging out the top South African competitor by 2.84 pounds to claim the individual title. His success played a major role in Team USA outperforming anglers from South Africa and Zimbabwe to bring home the gold medal, marking a monumental moment for the Murray State bass fishing program.
"Congratulations to Jackson Roumbanis on winning the Tri-Nations Tournament in Africa," said Coach Owen. "Your hard work, focus, and determination truly paid off. I would also like to give a shoutout to Team USA for bringing home the overall win. This is an incredible achievement that shows the strength and heart of our team. Well done!"
Roumbanis and Morrow were selected earlier this season to compete for Team USA, an honor announced by Murray State College as the two standout Aggies prepared for one of the world's premier youth bass fishing events. Their selection alone reflected the strength of the MSC program, but Roumbanis' tournament victory elevated that recognition even further as he led the U.S. squad with key catches across each competitive session. Team USA maintained strong scoring totals from start to finish, and Roumbanis' top-tier performance provided the spark needed to hold off the host nation and secure the championship title.
The Murray State College bass fishing team returns to the waters Jan. 10 for the Lake Tenkiller Tournament.
