Coach John Owen has served as the Head Bass Fishing Coach at Murray State College since July 2022. In that time, he has established a clear strategic vision to develop one of the nation’s leading collegiate bass fishing programs. Under his direction, the team has expanded from just two members to more than 40 dedicated student anglers in only two full seasons.
Coach Owen’s leadership has produced an impressive record of competitive success, including over 45 Top-10 finishes, two consecutive TBF JUCO National Championships, an MLF National Conference Championship, and three straight Oklahoma School of the Year titles. He has been recognized as the Oklahoma BASS Coach of the Year three years in a row. These accomplishments have elevated Murray State College’s standing to 2nd among junior colleges.
Beyond his coaching achievements, Coach Owen is committed to fostering character, discipline, and academic success among his student-athletes. He resides in Ardmore, Oklahoma, with his wife, Lindsey, who serves as the Director of Nurses at Griffin Memorial Hospital. He is the father of two sons and grandfather to two grandchildren. The Owen family are active members of H2O Life Church in Ardmore.
