Aggies Fall to Western Texas

MSC Men’s Basketball Lost to Western Texas on Tuesday

EDMOND, Okla. – The Murray State College men's basketball team came up short on Tuesday night, falling 96–87 to Western Texas College.
 
The Aggies and Westerners traded baskets early before Western Texas took an eight point lead midway through the first. The Aggies trimmed the lead to two before the Westerners pushed the lead to seven at halftime.
 
Murray State responded in the second half as the Aggies took a one point lead with 14:47 left in the game. The Aggies would push the lead up to six with just under 10 minutes to play. A 13-1 run by Western Texas would put the game out of reach as the Westerners defeated the Aggies, 96-87.
 
Western Texas connected on nearly 60 percent of their field goal attempts (34-of-57), while Murray State shot 36.6% from the floor and 37.5% from three. Western Texas used its size and efficiency to control the boards, outrebounding Murray State 41–30 and dominating inside with 28 made two-point field goals.
 
Tayesen Combs led the Aggies with 23 points on 8-of-17 shooting, including seven made threes. Malachi Schilreff added 17 points and five rebounds while hitting 6-of-11 from the field. Domantas Sarauskas contributed a team-high nine rebounds.
 
The Aggies will look to bounce back as they get set for the home opener on Friday against Arkansas-Cossatot. Tipoff is set for 7:30 p.m.
