ENID, Okla. - Murray State College men's soccer continued its dominance in Region 2, capturing its third consecutive Region 2 Championship with a gritty 1-0 victory over Eastern Oklahoma State College on Saturday afternoon.
Â
The title match was a defensive battle from the start, with both teams showing patience and physicality in the midfield. The Aggies created several promising chances in the opening half but were unable to break through against a disciplined Eastern back line. On the other end, Murray State's defense kept Eastern at bay, turning away every scoring attempt to send the match into halftime scoreless.
Â
The decisive moment came in the 62nd minute, when
Daniel Minhas delivered the championship-winning goal. Minhas collected a deflected shot just outside the box and finished past the Eastern goalkeeper to give the Aggies the 1-0 lead. The goal energized the Murray State sideline and set the tone for the final stretch.
Â
Over the remaining minutes, the Aggies showed composure and determination, maintaining possession and holding strong defensively against Eastern's late push. The back line stood firm, and the final whistle sparked celebrations as Murray State clinched their third consecutive Region 2 Championship.
"The togetherness and energy we showed today was what took us all the way to the final whistle," said
Coach Winning. "This is a special group, and we cannot wait to play a western Texas team we have already seen this year."
Â
With the win, the Aggies will host the Mid-South District Championship match next week. The winner of that match will clinch a berth to the NJCAA Division I Men's Soccer Championship beginning the following week.
