ENID, Okla. - The Murray State College men's soccer team punched their ticket to the Region 2 Championship match with a convincing 4-1 victory over University of Arkansas–Rich Mountain in Friday's semifinal.
The Aggies came out firing early, with
Dariel Contrera netting back-to-back goals in the 9th and 17th minutes to give Murray State a quick 2-0 advantage.
James Owen added to the momentum with a strike in the 24th minute, putting the Aggies firmly in control.
UA Rich Mountain managed to pull one back late in the first half, cutting the deficit to 3-1 heading into halftime. However, Murray State wasted no time reestablishing their dominance after the break, as
Erik Montanez found the back of the net in the 48th minute to seal the 4-1 victory.
Following a dominant performance,
Coach Winning reflected on their strong start, saying, "Great way to start the tournament especially when we had so much control of possession. We are excited and ready for whoever we play in the final."
With the win, the Aggies advance to the Region 2 Championship and will take on the winner of Northeastern Oklahoma A&M and Eastern Oklahoma State.
