Murray State Sports Information
Costly miscues and rough shooting down the stretch proved fatal for the Murray State Lady Aggies Saturday night in a 77-75 overtime loss to Northern Oklahoma-Enid at Beames Fieldhouse.
Murray State held a 73-66 following a pair of
Arissa Garcia free throws with 46 seconds left in regulation but saw that advantage slip away thanks to back-to-back turnovers as the Lady Jets reeled off seven points in only 32 seconds to knot the score.
Two missed shot attempts in the lane and a foul gave NOC-Enid a chance at victory in regulation but the Lady Jets couldn't connect on two free throw attempts with 3.6 seconds left and Garcia's running trey attempt from just inside halfcourt rattled out to send the game to an extra period.
Coach Nate Levine's club got a pair of
Ongolea Afu charity tosses just 24 seconds into the overtime but did not score again while going ice cold from the field. Enid struggled as well but sank a pair at the line with 2:41 left and what proved to be the game-winning bucket just 34 seconds later.
Garcia posted a team-high 21 points to fuel four Lady Aggies in double figures. Returning to the lineup for the first time in a week,
Olivia Quapaw equaled
Sosefina Langi with 13 points apiece as Afu finished with 12.
Murray State also picked up nine from
Khalayah Willis, five by
Tierra Williams and
Mireia Casas' two.
The Lady Aggies slip to 11-7 overall and 3-4 in conference as they wrap up the first half of league play Monday night on the road at Western Oklahoma State College in Altus.
