Lady Aggies notch big win over NEO

A massive third quarter flurry broke open a tight game and built as much as an 18-point Murray State lead before the Lady Aggies held off Northeastern Oklahoma A&M, 77-64, at Beames Fieldhouse Thursday night.

The victory was Murray State's second in a row and propelled the Lady Aggies to a 15-11 record overall and 7-8 in conference play. NEO slipped to 11-17 overall and 7-8 as well in the league.

Murray State held an 18-14 edge after one period before the visitors answered to narrow the margin to 33-32 in a nip-and-tuck first half. The third quarter was a completely different story however.

Coach Nate Levine's club exploded for 26 points to build the monster advantage that proved to be way too much for NEO to overcome as every player in uniform contributed points for the Lady Aggies.

"We made shots and played really good defensively," Levine said afterward. "We allowed one offensive rebound in the first half and did great in the second half as well. We had a bunch of people all step in off the bench and contribute tonight. It was an all-around effort and not just one or two people."

NEO made a strong push to rally in the final stanza, narrowing the gap as close as eight before four straight free throws from Olivia Quapaw and a pair from Sosefina Langi helped ice the victory.

Langi pumped in 15 points to lead the charge with Casas and Tierra Williams notching 12 apiece. Arissa Garcia and Quapaw just missed double figures as well with eight points each. Serra tossed in seven off the bench, Cristina Laudan had five as Ongolea Afu and Hannah Pinney both added four while Willis chipped in two.

The Lady Aggies will be on the road Monday at Eastern Oklahoma State College before the home finale next Thursday against Western.
