Pressure defense fueled a massive 30-point second period as Murray State completely broke open a tight contest on the way to a 91-55 women's basketball romp over Ranger Junior College Monday night at Beames Fieldhouse.

In their first home game in more than three weeks, the Lady Aggies showed the comforts of the Tishomingo surroundings, canning 12 three pointers in addition to a plethora of transition buckets off Ranger turnovers.

Murray State only led 25-21 after one quarter before flexing its muscle in an impressive 30-7 scoring blitz in the second frame that made it a commanding 27-point bulge at intermission.

Coach Nate Levine's unit didn't let off the throttle in the third quarter, pouring in another 24 points to take a whopping 79-45 advantage to the final period.

"It was really nice to be back at home tonight after almost four weeks and multiple games on the road," Levine stated. "We had been a little cold shooting but found our range tonight. Couple that with good defense and we are going to be tough to beat the rest of the way."

Mya Cotto tallied 18 points, including 12 in the huge second stanza, to pace four Murray State double figure scorers. Mireia Casas pumped in 15, Jordyn McNeal had 14 and Keshanti Gordon also scored 13.

They also got nine from Taja Bennett, eight by Ongolea Afu, Arissa Garcia added six, Olivia Quapaw and Elyssia Brooks had three each with Latai Charles also chipping in two.

The Lady Aggies, who improved to 9-2 for the season, close out the pre-holiday portion of the schedule Saturday with a 2 p.m. home outing against Arkansas-Cossatot.
