WICHITA, Kan. – Murray State's record-breaking men's soccer season came to an end Monday evening with a 2-1 loss to sixth seeded Eastern Florida State in the NJCAA National Championships at Stryker Sports Complex.
The Aggies put on another strong defensive performance through more than 80 minutes of the contest before the Titans erupted with a pair of decisive goals in less than a minute against the leg weary Murray State squad, which had boasted more than 190 scoreless minutes in just over 24 hours.
Coach Alex Morais' club finished a historic campaign with an 18-2-1 record.
Despite battling against a stiff wind in the second half, the Aggies finally got on the offensive scoreboard when
Gui Alves blasted through a shot off a
Nicolo Donadio assist with only 3:22 remaining. That proved to be one of only two shots on goal in the contest for Murray State with the other coming via a first half opportunity by
Ryosuke Miyata, whose strike was blocked by the Titan goalkeeper nearly 27 minutes into the contest.
Murray State keeper
Francisco Pinochet notched eight saves as Eastern Florida State peppered the goal with 10 shots throughout the match.
Miyata finished with three total shots in the game as Alves contributed two and
Shuto Ishikawa the other.
