The 7
th ranked Murray State Aggies rallied from a halftime deficit with five second half goals on Wednesday afternoon to topple University of Arkansas Rich Mountain, 5-1, and wrap up the top seed in the upcoming Region 2 playoffs.
Coach Alex Morais' club remained unbeaten at 13-0 but it looked a bit shaky for the first 45 minutes as Murray State could never find the back of the net while the Bucks grabbed the lead with a goal in the 27
th minute on a free kick.
The Aggies turned up the aggressiveness and pressure after intermission and almost immediately tied the score thanks to an
Alberto De Miguel goal off a
Ryosuke Miyata only 4:33 into the half.
Murray State added another goal in the 60
th minute when Miyata fed
Alexis Lopez for the go-ahead tally that put the hosts ahead to stay.
They tacked on a team goal in the 70
th minute and notched a pair of goals less than a minute apart just five minutes later.
Gustavo Ursino recorded the first tally after a
Philipp Federer assist and
Bryan Garcia set up
Matias Bauza for the final goal.
In total, the Aggies wrapped up with 26 shots on goal.
"Today was a good test for our guys to see how we can handle adversity during the game," said head coach Alex Morais. "It was Sophomore Day and we ended up conceding a goal at the beginning of the first half off a free kick. It was the first time we've really been behind on the scoreboard for very long all season and the boys showed big character to come back with a great performance in the second half.
"With this we secure the number one seed in the region playoffs and a first round bye, which is a big advantage. We're very happy and proud of this group and we know we can do big things as the season continues."
