Murray women topple NOC-Tonkawa

Strong offensive flurries to end the second and third periods proved decisive as the Murray State Lady Aggies evened their conference record Thursday night with a 68-61 victory over Northern Oklahoma College-Tonkawa inside Beames Fieldhouse.

Ongolea Afu scored six points in a pivotal 8-3 run to give the Lady Aggies a 33-30 edge at halftime and Arissa Garcia canned a three pointer to spark a 7-2 burst that gave Murray State a 53-45 advantage heading into the final frame.

Tonkawa closed to within 62-57 with three minutes remaining but Afu notched two more buckets and Mireia Casas added another in the paint to squelch the Lady Mavs comeback bid.

Freshman Sosefina Langi led the offensive charge with a season-best 23 points to help the Lady Aggies improve to 9-4 on the year and snap a two-game skid. They are also now 1-1 in league action.

Afu reached double figures as well, pitching in 16 points. Garcia scored seven, Tierra Williams pumped in six, Casas and Khalayah Willis each added five, Olivia Quapaw notched four and Cristina Laudan tallied two.

Murray State is slated to continue its homestand Monday night, hosting Northern Oklahoma College-Enid at 5:30 p.m. in Tishomingo.
