Murray State Sports Information
Stellar defense and goalkeeping were again the story for the Murray State soccer teams as they notched two shutouts for the second straight non-conference outing, this time on the road at Paris Junior College Saturday afternoon.
In the opener the Lady Aggies received another sensational effort from sophomore goalkeeper
Jimena Guevara as the local Madill product turned back the only four Lady Dragon shots on goal in the outing for a 2-0 victory.
"We played very well against a strong team that was very physical," said head coach John Connor.
Guevara ironically assisted on Murray State's first goal from the defensive back line, feeding
Kaylee Foster for the opening goal.
Uxia Varela continued her early season scoring string with another shot to the back of the net following an assist by
Faith Wylie.
While the score looked like a nailbiter, it was the Aggies that controlled much of the game in the men's contest that ended with a Murray State 1-0 win that moved their record to a perfect 2-0. The Aggies had plenty of offensive opportunities, although only one of those managed to connect with the goal.
England native
Joel Green posted the lone Aggie goal on a beautiful free kick from the edge of the box.
Jaron Noble finished with five saves in goal.
While the Lady Aggies have a Tuesday night date at Eastfield Junior College, the next stop for both teams together comes Sunday, August 27 when Arkansas-Rich Mountain comes to town.
